PHOTO FLASHBACK

I was just going through some snowboard shots from the past few seasons and came across the photo below. I thought I'll blog it as a homage to finish photog Pasi Salminen's photo flashbacks on ettala.com where he actually just posted his 33rd(!) well known picture of Eero Ettala. Well wishes go out to Eero over the internets, he just had his acl surgery. Watch him here getting the diagnosis while setting a new Doodle Jump record on his iPhone.

WHERE FINLAND S SNOWBOARD ELITE COMES FROM

Finland has one of the best snowboard scenes I've witnessed. And some of the best riders in the world come from there as well, no coincidence. There's this resort called Talma just outside of Helsinki. Since it's dark most of the time in winter anyways, they've got lights so you can ride pretty much any time of the day. Naturally people go for a shred after work or school and sure enough you'll always run into someone you know. How great is that?

I've shot a story there this winter that got published in Pleasure Snowboard Magazine (Germany) and Snowstyle (Japan). Here are some tear-sheets, check out the full story in the mags - they're at newsstands now.

Picture in picture - no, not the feature that your TV had to have back in the 90s. I just found this ad from the resort Northstar at Tahoe in the current issue of Transworld Snowboard Magazine. Sorry for the quality, I just took a snapshot with my cell phone from it.
Can you see the graphics of the obstacle? I shot the photo for the graphics with Eero Ettala last year in Munich (Client: Oakley). It's him standing "inside" the rail armed with a marker and writing stuff on the plexiglas. Kinda funny to see the rail appear in photos every once and while.

Mayrhofen

The other day I went to Mayrhofen in Austria to shoot a photo with Steve Gruber for Pleasure Magazine's "Showroom". The readers can win every single piece of equpment of the featured pro rider's gear. Therefor they have to draw, build, glue somthing together that goes along with the theme of the photo. It's crazy what people send in sometimes, really impressive.
